|Job Profile||Substation Craftsperson|
Before electrical power reaches the public, it may flow through several substations on its way from the generating station. The substation carries out lots of important jobs such as transforming voltage from high to low, or vice versa, before it travels on its way.
In this role you’ll be looking after the plant and equipment at the substation to help maintain it, identify faults and keep systems in working order. To make sure the power keeps running smoothly, you’ll need to carry out your work on time and to schedule, in a safe manner that minimises all risk of accidents.
|Training/Qualifications||You’ll need to get a good foundation with an electrotechnical apprenticeship, including additional specialist training such as health and safety.|
|Progression||With experience you can move up the ladder into more technical roles, along with supervisory and management positions.|
