|Job Profile||Renewable Technician – Energy Industry|
Use of renewable energy such as solar power or wind turbines is ever-increasing as the country looks for ways to reduce its consumption of fossil fuels.
A Renewable Technician has special expertise and knowledge to make sure renewable systems are well designed and working effectively and efficiently.
You’ll also be installing, maintaining and commissioning renewable technologies and putting your knowledge of health, safety and energy conservation into use.
As well as providing your electrical expertise on a range of projects, you’ll also need to create and understand complex design drawings that map out the systems you’ll be working on.
Once the systems are installed, making sure they’re used properly is essential – so you’ll also need to communicate with customers on the right way to use the equipment.
The best entry route is via an industry apprenticeship, where you’ll gain a recognised NVQ or SVQ Level 3. You’ll be able to train specifically in renewable energy and any other training to meet the requirements of your specific job.
You’ll need to show that you understand particular regulations and, if needed, do additional technical training to meet the level required.
After gaining experience you could become a Manager within your area and be in charge of different projects and people. You could also undertake further training in renewable or electrical systems design or engineering.
