Health and Safety is an essential part of everyday life now – if close attention isn’t paid to keep people safe, it could be damaging to health or, at worst, have fatal consequences.

As a Health & Safety Advisor you’ll be making sure the environment you work in remains safe for employees and the public.

It’s your job to assess risks and ensure everyone is aware of how they should be acting safely. You’ll need to report your findings and activities to your supervisors, and keep excellent records of how you are meeting H&S legislation.

Training/ Qualifications

An industry-recognised apprenticeship is the best place to start, or NVQ/SVQ Level 3 qualification. You’ll also need to gain special health & safety qualifications from IOSH – the Institute of Occupational Health & Safety – or similar qualification (e.g. NEBOSH).

Progression opportunities

Once you’ve gained the relevant experience you can progress to Senior Manager roles or possibly to other areas of the business such as facilities management or building services.
